My Most Vulnerable Act

I have a friend named, Catherine, who walks through life in a way that has always blown my mind.

She takes life as it comes… the good and the bad. And she never gives too much weight to anything. She never lets anything get to her.

She is always at peace with life… in flow. She has always had an innate understanding that fighting life does nothing.

Her life is not perfect. She is not uber-successful or married to her soulmate. She does not live problem-free. And she is not insanely wealthy.

But she has something most of the world is lacking… inner peace. She carries herself with tranquility. I’ve always envied, and never fully understood, her way of moving through the world.

But lately, that is starting to change.

My acceptance for life is starting to grow, and in my acceptance for life I am finding my own self-acceptance growing.

Just like we cannot change the waves from rolling onto the beach, there are so many life circumstances we cannot change. There is so much outside of our control. I’ve always understood this intellectually, but I never fully accepted it.

These days, I am finally accepting that there is a power greater than myself orchestrating my life and the lives of everyone around me.

These days, I am finding myself leaning on God, not out of desperation, but because I understand that having a higher power is the only thing that makes any sense.

Yesterday, in a moment of overwhelm and surrender, two women from my church found me sitting on a bench and asked me to come with them to dinner.

We talked about our struggles, the challenges of life, and how God is the only way they’ve been able to endure their trials and tribulations. My conversation with them inspired me to look at God in a new light.

I don’t want to look at God as some type of spiritual Santa Clause granting my every wish. I want to have a more mature relationship with God.

I want to deeply love and trust God EVEN THOUGH He walks me through pain, EVEN THOUGH I sometimes feel abandoned by Him, EVEN THOUGH I do not understand His plan.

I don’t want to struggle anymore against the current. I want to accept that there is anguish, joy, turmoil, friendship, and benevolence in this life. I want to trust God’s plan.

I want to welcome God into my life in the most vulnerable and surrendered way I ever have.

I don’t feel scared. I feel ready… ready to embrace a life far greater than one I could ever image for myself. Ready to embrace a destiny that God has been waiting for me to surrender to for my entire life. Ready to finally put my ego aside and truly be of service.

No matter what’s going on in your life… trust that God is there. Trust that everything is working together in miraculous ways you cannot comprehend from your current vantage point. Trust that God is bringing you somewhere so beautiful, you’ll hardly believe your eyes.

Keep inspiring,

Nicole
