Rising Above Betrayal: Choosing Love and Forgiveness in the Face of Pain
What do we do when we are betrayed?
By ourselves, by those we love, by God?
Betrayal is something we are not taught to deal with. We are taught how to avoid it and how to live a picture-perfect life… but what about when it all goes to shit? What then?
When we are betrayed we have a few options, we can either:
Hide our heads in the sand and pretend it's not happening
Fight Back
Access our higher selves and find a common resolution
We all know the solution here… but it's tempting to pick the first two. And we will probably go through a period of time where we oscillate between the first two options out of hurt. We are human and we don’t always pick our higher selves every time.
When we are betrayed it feels like the rug is pulled out from underneath us and everything we have ever known is turned upside down. Being betrayed is different than just being hurt. Being betrayed makes you question your sanity, your existence, and your entire sense of self-worth.
But here’s the good news.
You don’t have to be a victim.
You can feel the betrayal and choose to rise above it. You can choose to process your feelings, wade through all of the complicated emotions that come up, and emerge on the other side.
Make no mistake. You will be different. Dirtying. Bloodier. Scarred. But you will also be… Stronger. Wiser. And more Resilient.
Betrayal feels like it takes everything from us. It feels like it takes our very soul. It can even take our will to live.
But we can use what was sent for our harm and meet it with the most powerful force that exists on the planet: love and forgiveness.
Any force that comes against you is ultimately a force within you manifesting externally. So even if you are not ready to forgive that person, think of it as a part of yourself that is begging for forgiveness.
Forgiveness has the power to reorient any relationship, all the cells in our body, and our entire lives.
Where betrayal came to wreak havoc, forgiveness is there to pick up the pieces.
If you have been betrayed… Fear not. You are loved. There is hope.
Forgiveness is the way.
You will live to fight another day. And I cannot wait to see the next chapter of your story.
Keep inspiring,
Nicole
