Ubuntu: Embracing Vulnerability and the Power of ‘I Am Because We Are’

In life, I have come to think that I am alone… that it is me against the world. But what I’ve come to realize is that this couldn’t be further from the truth.

The more we heal, the more we realize how interconnected we all are. In my relentless pursuit to become my best self and overcome my ego… I realized the path to doing this was to love each other.

I wasn’t ready for this.

I wanted to overcome my ego through meditation, reading, or massive achievement.

I thought I could overcome my ego on my own little island where it was just me, myself, and I, but I’ve found that isn’t the case.

Overcoming my ego happens from letting others into my heart and letting myself be raw, messy, and vulnerable.

Overcoming my ego comes from community.

Overcoming my ego comes from being a part of society.

My ego is scared of the world and has tried to build so many walls keeping me from it, keeping me in my own safe little space where I will never be hurt.

But these walls are toppling down.

My ego wants to convince me I’m too unworthy for true friendships and true love, that its better to stay in the shadows. But I know this isn’t true. I know I’m meant for more. And I know being “meant for more” isn’t about achievement, it's about a deeper sense of connection.

I can’t do it by myself and the vulnerability of that scares me.

I could never do it by myself, but I never let myself say it out loud.

Now I know- I can’t do it on my own.

I’m nothing without my friends.

I’m nothing without my community.

I’m nothing without my family.

Ubuntu.

It means: I am because we are.

I am because we are.

Thank you for being here with me.

I love you.

Keep inspiring,

Nicole
